Thursday is a many-splendored thing:
â–º London duo Public Service Broadcasting — who go by the names J. Willgoose, Esq., and Wrigglesworth — bring their unique live show to the Roxy Theatre behind their new album “The Race for Space,” which focuses on the U.S.-Soviet Union space race from 1957 to ’72. The duo’s sample-filled electronic music and live instrumentation, along with their videos, is the like the Best Science Project Ever. Above, the video for “Go!” (and also see the video for “Gagarin”). Local quintet Kiev open the show.
â–º New York bluegrass luminaries Punch Brothers visit the Fonda Theatre behind their new album “the Phosphorescent Blues,” with Gabriel Kahane opening.
â–º “Evermotion” is the title of the new, acclaimed Guster album, and the long-running Massachusetts band visits the Wiltern tonight. Kishi Bashi opens.
â–º The Donkeys headline the Satellite behind their latest album “Ride the Black Wave,” supported by Buxton and White Dove.
â–º Nashville octet ELEL teams up with Bryan Appleby for a show at the Bootleg HiFi.
â–º And Haim hosts and performs at the Sam Jam, benefiting the Our House Grief Support Center, which celebrates the life of actress/baseball payer Sammi Jane Kraft (“Bad News Bears”), who died in a car accident in 2012.
