Ears Wide Open: Vision

Vision

Vision is not a psychedelic band. There are no flowers and swirly pastel kaleidoscopes in this band’s heart. That’s not to say they don’t write love songs, which they do, in fact. It’s just that they take a harder, darker, Britpop approach to feelings. The East L.A. trio of brothers Christopher Valer and Phillip Dominick, along with Richard Martinez, say they’re influenced by Nirvana, The Germs, and Oasis, and all three of those converge on the song, “What I Need,” from debut album, “Inertia,” available next month on Burger Records. The song is definitely about feelings. Singer-songwriter Valer is emphatic in the way he communicates, and the triangular approach taken by the band drives the point forward to a frenetic burst. “We’re doing the same thing they [Britpop] were doing, but on this side of the world,” says Dominick.
