The Salad Boys’ debut album “Metalmania,” out today on Trouble in Mind Records, is chock full of jangly folk-rock goodness and power-pop picks to click. The band — Joe Sampson, Ben Odering and James Sullivan, who have backed David Kilgour of the Clean — will be touring it in America shortly, the rest of the world later, and I’ll be there to hear it. Will you? The sample here, “No Taste Bomber,” reeks of “Reckoning”-era R.E.M., and the propulsive first drop from the album, “Dream Date,” achieves liftoff with a guitar line to make the heart sing. The video below features the band gooning around on their home turf, the Banks Peninsula on the South Island of New Zealand, with a microphone and an axe (the implement, not the instrument).
