After taking a break to recover from an April tour bus accident in Colorado, Twin Shadow was back in full force Saturday night at the Fonda Theatre. The celebratory show wrapped up the 32-date “Night Rally” tour, named for the mixtape of demos and B-sides (available as a download) that Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr. compiled while he was on the mend from injuries sustained in the crash.
Lolawolf, fronted by Zoe Kravitz, came out swinging to an intimate crowed. The tribal and exotic beats were strong enough to fill the pit by the end of the first song and the crowd seemed lost in waves of Kravitz’s catchy choruses.
After a short intermission, the venue continued to fill up and when the curtain was pulled, Lewis and his bandmates connected with the audience over their love to be home in Los Angeles. He chatted with old friends in the crowd and started with a classic, “Five Seconds,” which was all it took to amp up the crowd. The band segued into songs from their third album “Eclipse,” released in March, including “Turn Me Up” and concert closer “Flatiners,” with Lewis sprinkling in friendly conversation between songs.
D’Angelo Lacy appeared to sing the hit track from the new album, “Old Love / New Love,” and before Twin Shadow mixed in a few “Night Rally” tracks.
