Of Montreal returned to the Regent Theater for the second time this year on Wednesday night, with Kevin Barnes and crew leading the huge, glitter-spackled crowd down a music-theater rabbit hole. Was it a psychedelic dream or Halloween? Or a psychedelic dream about Halloween? Some fans dressed up, and other just spaced out as the colorfully costumed Of Montreal played selections from their latest album “Aureate Gloom,” and others, amid bright projections. Diana Coffee, aka Shaun Fleming of Foxygen, opened the night with a set that by comparison didn’t seem nearly as weird.
