Described as a “shoegaze chanteuse” and “all around cool girl,” Tamaryn comes swooping in on gilded wings like she’s a magical good-looking fiery well-dressed bird. A listen to her latest album, “Cranekiss,” her third on Mexican Summer, supports the hypothesis that this New Yorker from New Zealand is probably as cool as the hype suggests. The video for “Hands All Over Me” paints a portrait of the city at night as a bedazzled Tamaryn whips her hair back and forth in a small room while creepy men watch through windows. The song itself conjures some ’80s Madonna vibes with an industrial washover. The Madonna feel is not just a matter of sound and style but more about attitude. It’s owning that objectification, and the video concept, directed by Danilo Parra, really captures her confident femininity.
