L.A. quartet LEX’s phantasmical synth-pop, made with vintage analog gear, casts an eerie shadow, and similarly the band’s new video for “Mystery Boy” is shrouded in intrigue. Directed by singer Alexis de la Rocha along with Michelle Zamora (of Viva la Puppet) and filmed by Andrew Piniarski, the video depicts the quartet as creatures rising as if from the ocean floor. The band themselves were responsible for the costumes, props and sets — it’s typical in mood of the band’s darkly theatrical live performances. The foursome’s five-song EP, produced by Peter Franco (a Grammy-winning engineer who worked with Daft Punk), was released in May. Dive in.
