DMA’s haven’t released their debut LP yet and they’ve already found mass success … in Australia. That is all about to change, however. The Australian trio — Tommy O’Dell, Matt Mason and Johnny Took — are on the verge of conquering the U.K., the U.S. and perhaps all of planet Earth. They’ve tackled the air waves back home in Australia and sold out their first national tour; their single, “Delete,” was recently added to BBC Radio 1; they will be playing SXSW; Zane Lowe is a fan; and they’re part of the recently announced Coachella lineup, where they seem poised to be a breakout act.
All of that sets the stage for the release of DMA’s full-length debut, “Hills End,” out Feb. 26 via Mom+Pop. The album is fantastically Britpop, packed with ringing guitars and O’Dell’s Gallagher-esque vocals, and it’s like the ’90s never ended. Don’t mistake the nostalgia for obsolescence, though. Songs like “Delete” and “Lay Down” give a nod to the era while keeping the sound of 2016. DMA’s have even grabbed the attention of Dave Roundtree of Blur, who recently said that the band “has the swagger of Oasis and the musicality and inventiveness of Arctic Monkeys.” Noel Gallagher was also made aware of DMA’s presence, but he wasn’t as kind. No worries, mates. If a Gallagher brother is throwing shade your way, you must be doing something right.
