Nine more Buzz Bands LA picks for the week
- Monday/Tuesday: Australian singer-songwriter Matt Corby does two shows in advance of the March release of his debut full-length “Telluric” — Monday at the Teragram Ballroom and Tuesday at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
- Tuesday: Seventy-five-year-old Mississippi blues legend Bobby Rush headlines the Mint in celebration of the release of his “Chicken Heads” boxed set, a collection that culls more than 100 songs from his 50-year career.
- Wednesday: Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Katie Burden plays El Cid, joined by DIAMONDS, but there’s something about the “very special guests” listed that make us think it might be more special.
- Thursday/Friday/Saturday: Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins mark the 10-year anniversary of the album “Rabbit Fur Coat” with a run of shows at the do three shows at the Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
- Thursday: Even though Killing Joke postponed their tour due to an illness in the band, Oakland post-punks the Soft Moon, who were scheduled to support, are carrying on with a bunch of the dates. Included is Thursday’s gig at the Regent Theater, where they’re joined by Gateway Drugs and Sextile.
- Friday: L.A. quartet Harriet celebrate the release of their debut album “American Appetite” with a show at the Troubadour. Clara-Nova and Korey Dane open.
- Friday/Saturday: Alex’s Bar in Long Beach celebrates its 16th birthday with two shows headlined by OFF!, each with a stellar supporting cast.
- Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Surely by now you know about the GIRLSCHOOL Field Day Weekend at the Bootleg Theater. Dead Sara, Riothorse Royale, Kim & the Created, the Bulls, Maria Taylor, Miya Folick and a bunch more play.
- Saturday: Kitten frontwoman Chloe Chaidez recently turned 21 and the band has a new EP on the way, much of which fans will probably hear at the big hometown show at the Fonda Theatre.
