It’s not necessarily The Black and the White’s new single — the falsetto-spiked little disco-rocker “I Want You Back” — that’s cause for celebration. It’s the fact that the Los Angeles trio has a new single at all. The band — Julio Tavarez, Cliff Sarcona and Mario Gonzalez — has been in bounce-back mode since last June 2, when their van, along with approximately $17,000 in gear, was stolen. The van, stripped, was recovered a couple of weeks later, but the trio lost 10 years worth of gear they had accumulated, including drums, guitars, amps, sample pads, in-ear monitors, guitar pedals mics and cables (and insurance was scant help). A crowd-funding effort helped TBTW recalibrate, and now the band has completed work on its second EP, the five-song “My Heart Is Compromised.” It’ll be out April 26.
