“I don’t care what the future holds for me,” Azad Cheikosman sings in Torches’ new single “Future,” a high-flying bit of pop insouciance that leaves behind, once and for all, the grittier work he did in the band he started as Torches in Trees back in 2011. If the new music he’s made with partner in crime Eric Fabbro is meant to inspire a certain joie de vivre, then he’s succeeded: Roll the windows down and turn the volume up. But don’t take the whole notion of thumbing your nose at the future too literally. “‘Future’ is about accepting the fact that life is often disappointing, and you have to be willing to embrace change,” he told Bullett, where the song premiered. Maybe, then, it’s all about not being too obsessed with what tomorrow holds. And as a soundtrack to letting go, “Future” is pretty present.
