Video: Tegan and Sara, ‘Boyfriend’

The new music video from Tegan & Sara is a tongue-in-cheek journey into one unfortunate video director’s (played by designer Rachel Antonoff) emotional breakdown whilst being eluded by the perfect video concept. It’s a fun and oddly fitting backdrop to the duo’s catchy new single, “Boyfriend.” Directed by Clea Duvall, the video manages to capture the visual frustration expressed through the song’s lyrical content — being a lover’s secret — while introducing just the right amount of comic relief via absurd, zebras-on-a-green-screen type elements and antics.
The track, a dance-worthy journey into ’80s synth-pop, is the first single off the group’s upcoming full-length, “Love You To Death,” to be released June 3. Their eighth album and the follow-up to 2013’s “Heartthrob,” it finds the Quin sisters again working with producer Greg Kurstin. After their upcoming (and sold-out) shows at the Roxy and the Teragram Ballroom, Tegan & Sara will be heading out on a 40-date headlining tour, finding themselves back in Los Angeles this September.
