The guitar lines in Rudy De Anda‘s “Hunger Cloud” are so charming and perky, they could make flowers grow or popsicles melt into happy puddles. That’s not say there isn’t any grit or hard edges to the song. It gets rough, tough and noisy here and there. But no amount of distortion can muffle the fact there’s a certain skip in this song’s step, a consistent quality that shines through de Anda’s music, even during his days fronting Wild Pack Of Canaries. That’s what caught Ikey Owens’ attention and led to the living room recording sessions which wound up on last year’s EP, “Ostranenie.”
De Anda says “Hunger Cloud” is about “being happy about being alive on a day to day. And how you have to be willing to jump into adventures and basically have the hunger to do so. It also has the album title in the lyrics ‘delay, cadaver of a day’ meaning not my cadaver, not today. I live on to see another day.” Isn’t that the premise to one of the Bond films? Listening to Rudy De Anda is just like driving a spy car on a sunny day and blowing up bad guys through a button your watch. But instead of a wearing a suit, the driver has on tropical shorts and dirty t-shirt. Recorded at Jazz Cat Studios, De Anda’s full-length album, “Delay, Cadaver Of A Day,” arrives June 24 on Porch Party Records.
