Peter Murphy’s “Stripped” acoustic performance Wednesday night played rapturously to a sold-out Regent Theater as the man known as the “Godfather of Goth” chanted, wailed and crooned through a set of songs culled from his solo releases and from those by his seminal band Bauhaus. He was accompanied by guitarist John Andrews and bassist-violinist Emilio China. Solo highlights included “Marlene Dietrich’s Favourite Poem,” “A Strange Kind of Love” and “Indigo Eyes.” His Bauhaus tracks included “King Volcano” and “Kingdom’s Coming.” The 58-year-old also paid tribute to a recent departed icon by covering David Bowie’s “The Bewlay Brothers,” introducing it thusly: “This is a David Bowie song … so shut the fuck up.”
