Three years since their disappointing reunion show at Coachella and 22 since they released their second album, the Stone Roses today unveiled a new single, “All for One.” It was made at the Church Studios in London and produced by Paul Epworth, but there’s no info yet on the arrival of a rumored third album to accompany the live dates the band have scheduled next month in the U.K. Revered for their 1989 debut, the Roses on their new single restart the engines of their dancey, guitar pop-cum-psychedelia that made them game-changers in the early 1990s. Guitarist John Squires’ tones are like bumping into a long-lost friend, and Ian Brown’s vocals, given up for dead on their reunion tours, sound good. There’s even a we-mean-business freakout just past the 2 1/2-minute mark. As when they released their divisive sophomore album “Second Coming” in 1994, the Stone Roses are playing against expectations in releasing new music in 2016. This new single more than holds its own.
