Video: Bishop Briggs, ‘River’

Much has happened since the singer formerly known as Bishop released her second single, “River” — besides the fact the song and its predecessor, “Wild Horses,” have racked up a couple of million spins online. First, she signed a deal with Island Records. Second, she changed her music moniker to Bishop Briggs after find that there was a metal band who had been using the name Bishop for 15 years. Names are tough, after all: Her new name reflects the Scottish town Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, from which her family hails. She had initially chosen Bishop because she was dealt a bad hand (for an aspiring singer, anyway) at birth; her given name is the same as the platinum-selling songstress who fumbled toward ecstasy and built her own mystery in the 1990s.
Which brings us to this week’s release of the video for the synth-heavy “River,” directed by Jungle George, in which there is an ocean, a pond, some rapids and a swimming pool. Oh, and a gun. The Los Angeles River could not be reached for comment.
