There’s a reason Gothic Tropic has been on just about everybody’s Bands to Watch list for the past four years or so. Every time they perform (which is often) or release new music (which is not often enough), they surprise. It might be the rhythms, it might be Cecilia Della Peruti’s angular guitar work, it might be her don’t-trifle-with-me (some would say unf*ckwithable) vocals. The indie-rockers’ new single “Stronger” surprises as well; unlike the jagged, ragged glory of last June’s single “Puppet Master” or rhythmically tangled “Underwater Games” in 2014, it’s a pugilistic New Wave-influenced rocker — with, of course, twist. “I’m gonna make waves / don’t wanna be the same / I’m gonna play your little PC game / I’m stronger, stronger,” she declares in the breakdown, an affirmation that she’ll beat you at your own game.

Last year, Gothic Tropic promised a full-length titled “FASTorFEAST” would be out in 2016 via Old Flame Records. With Della Peruti having been a side player over the past few years with Charli XCX, BØRNS and Night Terrors of 1927, it’s been a long time coming. “Stronger” will be out Monday.
