Venice folk revivalists Magic Giant sure know how to keep things interesting. With their “In The Wind” tour approaching, Austin Bis (lead vocals), Zambricki Li (banjo & fiddle) and Brian Zaghi (acoustic guitar and cello) had a choice: Make frequent trips to L.A. to record new music, or try to create an album while on the road. They opted to convert their tour bus to a solar-powered mobile recording studio and take advantage of their Great American travels. “We’re going out for 40 days where we’re playing Wanderlust, we’re playing Electric Forest, we’re playing Lightning In A Bottle. So, we just bought this little bus and we’re tricking it out with a mobile recording studio. So, we’re going to go out and write along the way. … Do things as we go and make them part of the album.”

Applying their motto, “You don’t have to be big to be a GIANT,” to their sound is evident on songs like “Set On Fire,” making it hard to believe they’re a trio. The track is a festival-ready anthem with a video that previews a spirited live set amidst man-bunned and braided youngsters gently launching lanterns into the desert sky (not that desert). It’s kind of like that scene from Disney’s “Tangled,” without the psychotic adoptive mother and klepto boyfriend.
