Pop Cautious

Pop Cautious is the name for the music of folk singer-songwriter Tyler Porterfield, a Texas native who, having thrown caution to the wind, in February of last year launched his own Pop Cautious Records to promote what he calls “the honest resonance of authentic music.” Porterfield, who plays mandolin in the indie-folk outfit Seneca & the River and produced the EP by punk-country duo Punch-Drunks, hit one out of the park last month when he released the Pop Cautious single, the lush “Blue Dream.” The second single from his forthcoming EP (due Aug. 29) is “Miss Your Face,” a rhythmic love letter infected with a little bit of Rhymin’ Simon. It’s a stylistic turn from the first single, and from the early tracks on last year’s Pop Cautious sampler, but there’s no need to be careful. Dig in.
