Long-running country rockers the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band return to the city of their roots when they headline the fourth annual Folk Revival Festival in Long Beach on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The group, including founding members Jeff Hanna, John McEuen, Jimmie Fadden and Bob Carpenter, will release the CD/DVD “Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Friends – Circlin’ Back: Celebrating 50 Years” on Sept. 30. Of the golden anniversary show, Hanna says, “Most of us grew up there and our band got its start jamming at McCabe’s in Long Beach in 1966, so it seems totally fitting that we celebrate our 50th year in the city where it all began.”

The band’s appearance tops formidable lineup of roots music, including JD McPherson, the White Buffalo, Chuck Ragan, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, Willy Tea Taylor, Leo “Bud” Welch, Jonny Fritz, the Lowest Pair, Paige Anderson & The Fearless Kin, Moonsville Collective, Pearl Charles, Big Bad Rooster, Honey Whiskey Trio, Mcdougall, The Hollow Trees, Echo Mountain and the Smoggy Mountain String Band.

The festival goes off from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Long Beach’s Rainbow Lagoon Park.

Tickets are $40 (GA) and $75 (VIP), with seniors 75-and-older and kids 12-and-younger free.
