Blue-eyed Son — aka Venice-based singer-songwriter Andrew Heilprin — hadn’t released any music since 2013 until September, when he launched a single-per-month campaign that will culminate in the release of a full-length in 2017. Blue-eyed Son trades in the heartfelt and introspective, and he returned from his hiatus with a smile on his face. The single “Further Ya Go” got a boost from some friends Heilprin made during a visit to a club in Yokohama, Japan. During a jam session, he played the song’s chords, some Japanese artists jumped in and the rest in history. The song was recorded long distance and features vocalist Chan-Mika, drummer Gnkosai, guitarist Adachi “Panic” Soichiro, bassist Masashi Umeda and producer Ryoji Saito. The video, too, became a collaboration — Blue-eyed Son’s portion filmed in Venice, and Chan-Mika having fun in Yokohama.
Heilprin has followed up that release with two more: the bare-bones meditation “Snowbird,” recorded in Portland with Scott McPherson; and the new song “Nature,” an environmental hymn about which he says: “It’s a challenge for the human village to protect the planet and be thankful for all that comes with our consciousness.” The latest singles are available via Eenie Meenie Records.
