Ears Wide Open: The Put Off

After the unfortunate demise of avant-garde rockers Figs Vision, Gunner Sixx has adopted a new persona — Quimby Tuesday — and embarked on a new project, the Put Off, which he’s calling a rave “band” (the quotation marks are his). Sixx’s vision is not really of a band at all; it’s an art collective encompassing dance, visual art, music, video, fashion design and photography, whose members stage live interactive experiences. The soundtrack, though, is out there: “Sham,” the EP released this spring, roots around in Sixx’s haunted treasure chest of off-kilter beats, arresting synths and art-damaged vocal effects. As a stand-alone work, it’s compelling for its fleeting excursions into the pretty (“Sow”), urgent (“Peak”), unsettling (“Pocketbook”) and mysterious (“Shrug”).

Great article on Gunner’s new band project. Really enjoy their music.
