Fifteen-year-old Billie Eilish sings in a manner beyond her years about things that are relatable to her peers. In the case of her new single “Copycat,” it’s the herd mentality. She explains that the song is about “people [who] do everything someone else does to the point that they are not even themselves anymore.”
Along with releasing the new single, the fast-rising pop siren today announced that her debut EP for Darkroom/Interscope Records, “Don’t Smile at Me” — pardon our punctuation, it’s lowercased “dont smile at me” — would be out Aug. 11. It follows the singles “Bellyache” and “Watch,” released earlier this year, and her two smoldering singles from 2015 and 2016, “Six Feet Under” and “Ocean Eyes.” Like those previous singles, “Copycat” was produced by her 19-year-old brother, Finneas O’Connell. Eilish is also embarking on her first headlining tour in October.
