Friday’s co-headlining date with SWMRS and the Interrupters at the Fonda Theatre was almost like two concerts in one.
SWMRS, the young Bay Area pop-punk quartet whose album was produced by Zac Carper of FIDLAR, arrived dressed for Halloween, playing their exuberant pop-punk tunes to an equally young and exuberant crowd. The audience dutifully followed singer Cole Becker’s instructions to form a mosh pit, and then enthusiastically welcomed drummer Joey Armstrong when he came to the front for a meet-and-greet.
When L.A. ska-punk outfit the Interrupters followed, it was almost as if an entirely different crowd had filled the front part of the venue. The younger crowd for SWMRS seemed to have retreated, replaced by slightly older fans sporting a lot of plaid and checkers. But there was no shortage of moshers for the Interrupters, who are touring in support of their new album “Say It Out Loud” and who will open for Green Day next month in South America.
