Modern Time Machines, the long-running project of singer-guitarist Ben Golomb, love the romantic but deafening side of shoegazing, making music that suggests that hearing the right chords through the right fuzz pedals could transport you to the land of happily-ever-after. This week, the band announced that its sophomore album “MTM” will be released April 6. Their first full-length since “Continuity Girl” in 2012, it’s produced by Josiah Mazzaschi and features contributions from Dave Dupuis of Nightmare Air and Kenneth James Gibson of Bell Gardens, along with all-around-town violinist Kaitlin Wolfberg.

Now about this video for “High Noon,” which was directed by Golomb and filmed by Michael Shu: It’s quite possible that the only thing the Modern Time Machines’ frontman likes more than distortion pedals are movies. So during the course of Golomb getting the band and gear together for practice, there are 4 1/2 minutes filled with Easter eggs. In this case, there are no fewer than 12 references to the work of filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. A few are obvious. Others, not so. How many can you detect?
