Isn’t Maxim Ludwig a handsome guy? I think even he would agree. Look at him look at himself in the dressing room before the big rock show. Look at him all primped and primed and ready to rock

And there you have the first minute of Ludwig’s video for “Big White Wall,” a tune from his smart, swaggering classic rock mélange, “Libra-Scorpio Cusp,” released last summer. The rest should leave viewers (not to mention some fellow musicians) with at least a crinkle of smile, as the rock star is playing to a parking lot empty except for a photographer. “I’ve played to less,” Ludwig wisecracks when asked about the video, directed by Thaddeus Ruzicka and shot by Stefan Weinberger, with animation by Al Kamalizad. “I once played to the bartender.”

Notably, he adds: “The song is about standing on the corner of ambition and delusion. Where do they intersect and what lies do we tell ourselves just to continue on this absurd road we’ve each chosen? The video is about the tremendous amount of ego and chutzpah in the act of performance. About the megalomaniacal aspects of the artist. It was shot on 35mm film on an extremely hot and cloudless day.”

Ludwig figures to have another hot, cloudless day soon — he’s performing June 23 at Arroyo Seco Weekend in Pasadena. Would that the crowd there be so enthusiastic.
