Ten years after Swedish pop artist Lykke Li‘s debut “Youth Novels,” she is living in Los Angeles, where she’s developed a taste for West Coast treasures, like the glorious nectar derived from agave plants (she co-owns a mezcal brand) and hip hop beats, as evidenced by two tracks shared today from her fourth album, “So Sad So Sexy,” to be released June 8 by RCA Records. “Deep End,” produced by Jeff Bhasker, Malay and T-Minus, and “Hard Rain,” produced by Rostam, each incorporate drum machine sequences in gentle ways that compliment Lykke’s lilting vocal with a nice head-nodding propulsion. She does a little bit of rapping herself on “Hard Rain,” and elsewhere on the album she brings in Portland rapper Aminé for a guest appearance on a song called “Two Nights.” So far, it’s sounding like “So Sad So Sexy” will soundtrack quite a few summertime make-out sessions.
