We Are Scientists are calling their current tour Megaplexpedition, after their new album “Megaplex,” and on the the first of two nights Wednesday at the Moroccan Lounge, the long-running indie-rockers made it worth the journey for fans (many of whom said they were attending both nights).

Besides their punchy 17-song set, the duo of Chris Cain and Keith Murray cracked wise, putting the city of Los Angeles (you know, just a place for screenwriting and acting hopefuls) or Bono (who apparently gave them a bad tip when they waited on him once) in their crosshairs.

The duo, joined by drummer Keith Carne, tied the present with the past nicely. They actually played as many songs off the new album as they played from their 2006 major-label debut, “With Love and Squalor.” In fact, in their encore they married old and new, launching into “Your Light Has Changed” before segueing into 2006’s “The Great Escape.”

Brooklyn indie-pop band Beverly was a strong opener, with no banter other than when getting on stage declaring how they had driven the whole day down the I-5 with no air conditioning to make the show.

We Are Scientists wind up their tour Saturday night at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown.

Setlist: Cash Cow, One In One Out, After Hours, No Wait at Five Leaves, Buckle, Notes in a Bottle, It’s a Hit, Too Late, This Scene Is Dead, Impatience, Central AC, Make It Easy, Rules Don’t Stop, Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt. Encore: Dumb Luck, Your Light Has Changed, The Great Escape.
