Allen Stone brought wide smiles and classic soul to the Fonda Theatre on Tuesday, the first of two nights at the Hollywood venue as he continues to stoke the fires for a new album in 2019.
After a sharp opening set from Nick Waterhouse and his band, Stone’s fans — many of whom likely missed his early set this summer at Arroyo Seco Weekend — greeted the headliner with the same exuberance he exuded. The stocking-capped 31-year-old native of small-town Chewelah, Wash., mentioned that he’d recently gotten married, showed the crowd some dance moves and ended his performance of “Voodoo” writhing flat on his back.
Included in the show were “Unaware,” to complete the main set, and the new single “Taste of You,” a collaboration with Jamie Lidell, released this week.
Stone and Waterhouse reprise their show tonight at the Fonda. It’s sold out.
