Just in time for Halloween, Sharon Van Etten evokes major Siouxsie Sioux vibes in her new video for “Comeback Kid.” The video features Van Etten singing directly to the camera, with fuzzy, patterned visuals and photos from her childhood in the background. A rumbling bass, warped low synths, organs and driving beat make the song, produced by John Congleton, an automatic dark-wave hit. In the chorus, Van Etten sings “Comeback Kid” like an anthem, full of hope.

The video was shot in Van Etten’s hometown of New York and shot by Jonathan William Tuner. “As the lyrics for ‘Comeback Kid’ unfolded, I realized I was talking about many selves: the kid, the adult, the sibling, the friend, the neighbor. I imagined a projector streaming over me of memories, unclear if they are mine or someone else’s, confronted by the disorientation of time and perspective,” explains Van Etten. “Jonathan William Turner helped me to convey these struggles of self, forgiveness, and living in the now.”

“Comeback Kid” is the lead single off her upcoming album, “Remind Me Tomorrow,” set to come out on Jan. 18 via Jagjaguwar.
