As an apocalyptic orange haze hung in the skies — the specter of the the wildfires burning about 40 miles to the west — Tyler, the Creator’s annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival flickered to life in the Dodger Stadium parking lot.
The highlights were many, including the hour-long set from Tyler himself (view it here), which started with the his rapping from a set made to resemble a treehouse and included the festival host performing while zipping around stage on a bicycle. The crowd went crazy for it. Both SZA and Kali Uchis delivered the same kind of grandiose performances they gave as last weekend’s Tropicalia Festival (with Uchis welcoming Steve Lacy from The Internet to guest on her “Isolation” album track “Just a Stranger”). Pusha T, closing out the Flog Stage, did a set that included a visual reading “FUCK DRAKE” on the screen behind him (he claimed it was the work of a “corny ass tech dude”). And Raphael Saadiq, Rex Orange County and Little Dragon turned in swoon-worthy afternoon sets.
