L.A. duo Cape Weather debuted last spring with the genius double-single “Telephone” / “Telephono,” two songs grown from the same musical embryo. The latest from Natalie Smith and Eric Jackowitz involves a telephone, too — the one a deeply depressed Smith ought to use when she’s feeling emotionally paralyzed.

“Big Time” is a fleeting, bewitching slice of indie-pop narrated by someone who questions whether she has the fortitude to prevail on her own. “I should call somebody / I hurt like hell / but it’s hard to say / I need some help / ’Cause I handle everything / by myself, big time,” Smith sings.

“Big Time” is being released via Yes Plz, a new subscription-based coffee service that comes with a weekly ’zine. (Wait, a print product? Yes.) If you’re feeling a bit down, maybe a jolt of caffeine will give you the boost you need to call a friend. The song is also available digitally.
