Musical brothers from another mother Golden Daze (Jacob Loeb and Ben Schwab) paired up after finding mutual roots and interests in the Midwest and Portland before settling in L.A.. The duo escaped to the wooded mountains of Big Bear to record their sophomore album, “Simpatico” (out Feb. 15 via Autumn Tone).

The slew of touring dates for their self-titled debut album, released in 2016, with the likes of Woods, Whitney and Twin Peaks, stressed their personal lives and partnership but also provided the mulch for new growth.

Loeb and Schwab explain how their latest single, “Took a Fall,” is the centerpiece for the new full-length, “It was vulnerable to record ’cause we were more or less singing about our friendship while the other was like two feet away. Every deliberation lyrically, melodically, instrumentally kind of represented something bigger. The subject was so personal to both of us and at the same time uniquely ours. It felt empowering to sing about that, like when the party is over and shit gets kinda real in life how do you reconcile that when your identity is closely tied to someone who is going through their own growths and dealing with their own pain.”

As the video suggests, the duo find themselves walking their own separate paths, both reflecting clearly — in dreamy, smooth, unison tenor — gratitude on what went right because of the other person and acknowledgement of their own part in what went wrong, singing, “Can’t blame you for it all / Our summer took a fall / The days are getting colder now / Still I’m leaving you like I did back then / Can’t remember but won’t forget / I can see it clearly and fall away / I still hold you dearly and fall away.” It takes two to tango, but it’s also good to step aside for a moment to regroup as individuals, especially after being so in sync for a while.
