Video: Saro, ‘Please’

Sultry and smoky, the video for Saro’s latest single “Please” — the singer-songwriter’s first music since 2017’s “Boy Afraid” EP — is a dark and mysterious affair directed by Alex Cook.
The musician says of the video: “The video is about getting so lost in the persona you’ve created that you become an observer of yourself. How it feels like every movement is being surveilled at all times. Voyeurs casting judgement through peepholes with their identities veiled.”
The video takes this idea quite literally; at one point Saro pushes against of what seems to be a giant construction of his own eye. Saro’s pretty body sulks through a maze as he pleads to the camera over a consistent pop R&B beat. The diagonal camera angles and monochrome palette allude to MTV R&B music videos from days of yore. The bizarre, slightly dramatic visuals for this single play into Saro’s self-constructed persona, but contrary to his anxieties about being surveilled, he certainly wants to be watched.
A new Saro EP is on the way this spring.
