Singer-songwriter Matt Koenig makes music as the Undercover Dream Lovers, a name that rolls off the tongue as easily as the plainspoken choruses in his songs. Tthe UCDL is the vehicle for the L.A.-via-Brooklyn artist’s sun-baked psychedelic synth-pop, conceived in a local bedroom and consumed thousands of times on the universe’s streaming services, where his 2018 EP “In Real Time” was a hit.

The video for the Undercover Dream Lovers’ new single “All You Need” gives a glimpse into that local bedroom. Directed by the artist along with Otium, it follows Koenig as he fidgets around the house, seemingly lost in his own bummer-pop anthem and its lonely-hearted despair. The diary entry is here: “I need someone to say to me / I’m all you need.”

Koenig explains that the song is an older composition he revisited. “This song is actually a demo from the early days of the Undercover Dream Lovers,” he says. “It’s around 3 years old now. It was a song that I had tried to finish a few times and would even perform at shows, but it never felt like it was quite right for release. While working on new material, I listened back to the song nostalgically with a few friends who encouraged me to simply release the demo on a whim. They then shot an impromptu one-shot music video to accompany the release.”
