After her enraptured debut EP, “Mirage,” captured L.A. audiences last year, Vegas native dream-folk songstress Sam Valdez unfurled “Turn,” a hauntingly beautiful new tune yesterday. With her moonbeam vocals floating just above the surface of waves of synths and a guitar dirge, Valdez narrates arriving at a turning point, “You’re still here when your body’s moved along… Statelines become adrift / We’re shaded and aiming just to miss… Flash out / Colorblind / Should I fix it or leave it all behind?…/ Livin’ in me still / The feeling’s gone but it’s not easy to kill.” It’s that familiar lethargy when one finds it mentally and emotionally hard to adjust to change after situations have already progressed in a different direction. Valdez sings, “My mind’s just gotta learn…” and it’s just as hard for the heart to learn, as well. The singer-songwriter embarks this month on a European tour throughout Germany as well as London, Zurich and Amsterdam.
