Singer-songwriter Mara Connor played the self-doubting outsider on her sublime 2018 single “No Fun.” On the second single from her forthcoming full-length, Connor is full-on brokenhearted, in the most awkward way possible.

“Someone New,” released today, seizes the moment when you run into an ex who has moved on. The song features Langhorne Slim, and it’s a beautiful duet in the great tradition of beautiful duets: a conversation you get to overhear.

The song, recorded at Nashville’s Bomb Shelter, features Jon Estes (guitar, bass, piano), Dave Racine (drums) and Billy Bennett (harmonies). The collaboration with Langhorne happened after the duo met at a gig in New York City and, finding out he had recorded in the very studio she was working in, she invited him to join.

The single is out via Side Hustle Records, the new label arm of PR firm Big Hassle Media. The behind-the-scenes video for the song was directed by Connor’s mom, Kate.
