Echo Park Rising has announced the first batch of artists for its ninth annual neighborhood bash, Aug. 15-18.

Performers at the festival’s free shows include the Paranoyds, SWIMM, Cosmonauts, SadGirl, Sister Mantos, Hana Vu, Black Nile and Goon, along with the likes of Juiceboxxx, Allensworth, Kills Birds, Ginger Root, the Pantones, Veronica Bianqui, Poppy Jean Crawford, Neil Frances, Healing Gems and Total Heat.

Headliners for the outdoor Liberty Stage are still to be announced (as is the lineup for the Buzz Bands LA Stage on Saturday, Aug. 17, in the Champagne Room at Taix).

New this year is a slate of family programming at the lake in Echo Park, featuring, among other highlights, opera-trained singer Claire McKeown’s ensemble Honey Child recasting themselves as Honey Child’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for a special tribute performance just before the Echo Park Film Series screening of the Beatles’ classic “A Hard Day’s Night.”

Also on the slate is the Los Angeles premiere of Scott Crawford’s new documentary “Boy Howdy: The Story of CREEM Magazine” at the Echoplex.

EPR’s full schedule is forthcoming — here is the schedule so far.
