In the recent work of her band Holy Wars, singer-songwriter Kat Leon forged industrial stormclouds of sound suited to the catharsis the songs sought from life-changing personal events.

Her new solo project finds Leon (née Katherine Pawlak) engaging in gloomy, cinematic pop, albeit more outward-looking than Holy Wars. “It is still dark and raw,” she says. “It just shows a different side of me.”

Leon’s first single “This Is How the World Ends,” the title track to her forthcoming EP, was originally written for the pilot of the now-canceled Fox TV series “The Passage.” In the series, the heroine endeavors to save humanity from apocalypse; in the song, made with her Holy Wars collaborator Nicolas Perez, Leon says goodbye in the warm rain. There are worse ways to go.
