Sometimes potential tragedy has a way of bringing those who are quarreling together again. It seems as though Peter Murphy’s heart attack on Aug. 14 has had that silver lining. Murphy was in the midst of the home stretch of his 11-date career retrospective residency at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge when he was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Two stents and a few weeks later, Murphy seems as right as rain and demands to continue. Thusly, the original foursome had a heart-to-heart, and the original line-up of Bauhaus will be performing live at the Hollywood Palladium on Nov. 3.
The foursome of Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J and his brother Kevin Haskins had their genesis in Northampton, England, in late 1978, and by 1983 conflicting personalities had splintered the band into into two camps. Murphy embarked on a solo career while Ash, Haskins and J went on to form Love & Rockets, both acts quite successful in their own right.
Bauhaus reunited 15 years later in 1998, doing a series of live shows, and again in 2005, when again, old acrimonies reared their ugly heads and they split around the release of their fifth album, “Go Away White.” They’ve kept busy in the interim, with Murphy releasing a string of critically acclaimed albums while Ash and Haskins have been touring as Pop Tone, revisiting Tones on Tale, Bauhaus and Love & Rockets material. David J has also been releasing solo material. The past year saw Murphy with J on an extensive world tour of the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia in celebration of Bauhaus’ 40 Year Ruby Anniversary.
Tickets are available for $79.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. The show is featured as part of the series Substance 2019, which includes Gary Numan, John Maus, Boy Harsher, Black Marble, A Place To Bury Strangers, Lust For Youth, ADULT., HTRK, Crack Cloud, Xeno And Oaklander, Psyche, Ritual Howls, Odonis Odonis, Miserable, Kontravoid, Kanga, Second Still, Void Vision and Klack.
