Video: Liily, ‘Wash’

Young L.A. quartet Liily blasted onto the scene in 2018 with riff-heavy, dynamic-shifting rock ’n’ roll that sounded as if they had to punch their way out of Los Angeles just to be heard. Neither the songs on their EP, “I Can Fool Anybody in This Town” (released in March) nor their live shows are for the faint of heart.
In fact, the energy of January’s Brekfest festival — staged at the Echo by the quartet and their label, Flush Records — was captured in the concert documentary “CITY/VALLEY: a Concert Film of the Brekfest Festival” earlier this year.
The foursome — singer Dylan Nash, guitarist Sam De La Torre, bassist player Charlie Anastasis and drummer Maxx Morando — return today with the new single “Wash,” a characteristically jagged indictment of today’s state of affairs. “I have no hope for the world of today,” Nash proclaims over a thunderstorm of screeching riffs and Morando’s typically heavy hitting.
The stop-motion video for the song is the work of DL Guerra (Drew Lewis), founder of the production company Black Canvas. It’s an impressive rush, with the band speeding to L.A. landmarks such as Bob’s Big Boy and Casa Vega before ultimately doing battle with a monster at the foot of the Hollywood sign. Those who rock the hardest win.
