Fast-risen songstress Bishop Briggs teased “Jekyll & Hide,” a new single ahead of her upcoming sophomore album, “Champion,” out Nov. 8 via Island Records. Don’t get too close because, just like the album’s title track, it packs a punch. Exploring the dynamics of an imbalanced relationship (or, rather, with an unbalanced person), Briggs infuses her confusion with the growl and agility of a panther. “I wrote this one with K. Flay and it was produced by Joel Little,” the singer-songwriter shared. “In the chorus, we wrote ‘are you Jekyll & Hyde-ing me?’ as a way to describe the chaotic feeling of dating someone who has two very different sides.”

It begins tortured, with Briggs sliding down a mental spiral, “Storms brewing up above / I was breaking / I was begging /Just to raise you up / From the grave of your mistakes / Pleasure is a kind of pain / Have I had enough?” The co-dependent, post-chorus interlude later explodes with arena-sized drums and synths.

Briggs kicked off a two-month headlining tour of North American & Europe last week and will be making a stop at the Wiltern on Nov. 1.
