The Hi Hat

News briefs from local music venues:

The Hi Hat

Elene Perry has taken over as talent buyer at the Highland Park nightcub The Hi Hat. She replaces Britt Witt, the booker at the 300-capacity club since it opened in early 2016. Perry, who started her music career working at labels before matriculating into artist management at Echo Park Records and then her own management firm, has worked at the Hi Hat since 2018, first as marketing coordinator and then as assistant GM.

Moon Room (fka The Griffin)

The new bar and happy-hour menus are being rolled out — can live music be far behind? Moon Room — formerly known as The Griffin before the unfortunate dust-up last year resulted in the sale of the Atwater Village bar — will be undergoing some changes. Word is that a stage will be constructed at the north end of the main room (where a circular fireplace will give way). The only show scheduled at the venue (3000 Los Feliz Blvd.) so far is L.A. shoegaze trio Moaning doing a Dr. Martens Presents night on Feb. 13. Stay tuned.

The Lyric Theatre

The lamentable tale of the Lyric Theatre — the La Brea Avenue room that got a makeover in hopes it would become a real venue, only to meet neighborhood opposition — was told in great detail by the L.A. Times in November. It’s an eye in to what it takes to open a venue in Los Angeles. Last week, owner Ryan Braun told Buzz Bands LA that no prospective buyer has come forward with a serious offer and he was contemplating listing the space as rental for filming and private events.
