Ears Wide Open: Greer

Teenaged rockers Greer have been making noise — onstage and online — since they arrived, seemingly full formed, out of Costa Mesa in late 2018. They cultivated a following while relentlessly showing their chops at shows big and small, including an appearance at last May’s Just Like Heaven festival and a more recent tour opening for the Regrettes.

Owing in part to orange beanie-clad frontman Josiah Greer’s prominence on Instagram, the only two songs the band has released so far have fairly exploded. Make no mistake, though, both “Bittersweet” and “Song for Me” are solid garage-rockers, tapping into the thrill and spills of being a teenager.

Today the news dropped that the quartet (originally a five-piece, rhythm guitarist Niko Sanz seems to have departed the band) has signed to Epitaph Records. Plans are to have the band begin recording next month with producer Rob Schnapf.
