Swedish dream-pop luminaries the Radio Dept. — the almost-two-decade-old collaboration between Johan Duncanson and Martin Carlberg — have returned with the new single “The Absence of Birds” ahead of a North American tour in April and May.

It’s a typically restrained and painterly song that the duo says “is a song about missing someone. And about forcing the hand of chance to make new and unexpected things happen.” They add: “There’s more to come this year, 10 or more songs will be released in some way or another during 2020. Release formats to be decided from what we feel suits the songs.”

The release comes via the band’s own Just So! label, which also announced that the Radio Dept.’s 2006 gem “Pet Grief” is being re-pressed for a vinyl release.
