The world is on fire, metaphorically and literally, and like any post-punk band worth its salt, Flat Worms are here to remind you to spend less time with your pop culture baubles and more time considering how to right the ship. Even in incremental ways.

The L.A. trio of guitarist Will Ivy, bassist Tim Hellman and drummer Justin Sullivan returned today with the stinging single “Market Forces,” the first taste of their album “Antarctica,” arriving April 10 on the Drag City imprint, GOD? Records. It’ll be the follow-up to 2019’s mini-LP “Into the Iris” and Flat Worms’ first full-length since their 2017 debut.

The new album was recorded with none other than Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and mixed with Albini and Ty Segall — all in the span of six days. On “Market Forces,” Ivy’s riffs go straight to the spine; his vocal fusillade is delivered with just the right amount of acid. It’s one of those songs that doesn’t just play, it blisters.
