The Airliner reopens with a brighter glow

The Airliner

The Airliner in Lincoln Heights switched hands five months ago and has undergone a complete, gleaming makeover. Established originally in 1923, it still retains the old-L.A. vibe but now with more levity, less heavy and new updates that make it more welcoming.

The downstairs area has been literally polished and brightened, bringing out the beauty of the room-length, curved wood bar on one side and a new tropical-like mural by Stacy Smith facing it from the opposite side (before being painted black by the previous owners, there originally was another mural there) spanning the entire downstairs wall.

There is new food and new booze, with a small but solid collection of beers also on tap (including Guinness). And past the remodeled restrooms, there is expanded seating in the outdoor patio for those who want to dine and drink al fresco.

The upstairs area is also impressively brighter. Intended now as a multi-use event space, (which will include live bands, swing dancing and comedy nights), the old sound system was completely gutted and redone with new Yamaha speakers and subwoofers and a new Behringer  X32 digital sound board. The V Single Podcast will take it for a spin for the very first time on Friday night with a special Valentine’s Day edition that will include a live dating game, prizes and a DJ spinning tunes to dance to.
