Cecile Believe is the new nom de tune of Canadian singer-songwriter Caila Thompson-Hannant, who previously performed under the name Mozart’s Sister and turned the page after she relocated from Montreal to Los Angeles in 2017. Her work in L.A. included co-writing four of the tracks on dance-pop siren Sophie’s Grammy-nominated album “Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides.”

Today, the artist announced that her debut EP as Cecile Believe, “Made in Heaven,” would be out May 8. The lead single “Last Thing He Said to Me in Person” oozes with au courant production, its sinewy synths, billowing background vocals and electronic beats backing the singer’s soaring histrionics about wanting someone vs. not wanting someone. “I love but I shouldn’t,” she confides.

The video by Zoe Chait chronicles a year in the life of the director. Says Believe: “The video moves with the song in emotion and energy, a collage of memories from early morning after-hours to nude swimming in the Mediterranean and a lover’s last glance, we are in transit between waves of happiness and melancholy that so often go together in life.”
