Stream: Hazel English, ‘Combat’

As opposed to the sweet retro giddy-up of previous two singles, Hazel English’s new song “Combat” makes it sound like she’s losing an internal battle.

“Oh, the weight is crushing me / It’s taking all my energy / Feel like I’m facing everything / All on my own,” she sings on the twangy pop ballad, the latest from her album “Wake Up!,” out April 24 via Polyvinyl.

“‘Combat’ is about the push and pull of two people dealing with conflict in a relationship,” the L.A.-based Australian songwriter says. “It’s about how sometimes winning an argument can actually mean losing the real battle — maintaining intimacy with a partner.”
