“I just bought a mattress / I guess you could say that’s what being adult is,” Laila Hashemi sings to begin the Paranoyds’ new single “Memory Foam.”
Growing up is hard, right? The Paranoyds — Hashemi, Lexi Funston, Staz Lindes and David Ruiz — turn the idea into a catchy, kitschy chuckler of a song that slip-slides on B-movie synths into the world of grown-ups on their first single since last year’s album “Carnage Bargain.”
“‘Memory Foam’ is a playful track for us,” they say of the song that was recorded during the same sessions as the album. “[It’s] about the loss of innocence and transition into adulthood, about both the pride and sadness that can come from making an ‘adult’ purchase.”
The Paranoyds perform Thursday in downtown L.A. before heading to SXSW.
